J. Simó was born in 1970 in Valladolid (Spain). He got his degree in telecommunication engineering in 1996 at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). After 8 years of professional experience in the sector of NGO for development (4 of them living in Africa), he worked as researcher for the EHAS Foundation on topics related to the use of ICT’s in developing countries, finally getting his Ph.D from the UPM in February 2007, and receiving ex-aequo the best technical thesis for human development award from the Conference of Presidents of Universities at Madrid. He is currently an associate processor in the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Spain, as well as the technical director in the EHAS Foundation. His current interests are the application of IEEE 802.11 over long distances, ad-hoc networks and wide area broadband wireless communications.
